The year lost

Image
I don't even remember how long it's been since my last post. I had one drafted out that I never finished. Everything just got in the way. I guess I will catch us up to speed. If I recall, I last left off at our search for a new house. We ended up getting a bid accepted for a home not too far from where we were living before. When looking at the house the first time, it was raining and we saw a white cat taking shelter under the houses overhang. We almost took it as a sign that this was gonna be our house. When we met with the previous homeowners, they told us that there are a few cats around that were left behind by other neighbors when they moved away and they've been feeding them. Now as a conservation biologist, I don't condone outdoor cats, nor calling them into a specific area. The damage was done, however, so we began to try and befriend and catch them. We noticed there were a few kittens around as well. After getting bitten by the tabby in the photo above, we e...

Nine of Pentacles

Image
For a long time, I've had some anxiety about my finances. In college I often avoided ordering food or drinks out for fear of draining my bank account. In AmeriCorps, I lived off my savings and about $3/hr. When we would go out to Provincetown, I would stuff nippers in my coat to avoid buying drinks at bars and shoot them down when the bouncers weren't paying attention. If it weren't for the kindness of my mother and her helping me with my finances, I would be so screwed right now.     Now I have a job. It's weird. After almost 6 years of searching for jobs, I finally land a full time one. Sure it's not a job I really want or enjoy, but I'm actually earning something that feels like a paycheck instead of an allowance. I mean, my first paycheck went straight to rent and utilities, but still.      The Nine of Pentacles is just that: financial independence and abundance. This elegant woman near a garden fence, brandishing a large falcon, re...

Recommendations Part 4: Those that All Should Play

Image
Nearly every gamer has a list of games they think are the best and that everyone should play. This isn't a list of the best games, or my favorite games. They're games that I think everyone should play at some point. They're games that can help a gamer understand what makes a good game, the development process of a game or understand the history of modern games to appreciate what they have more and understand that there is more to understand and learn about game design. This list is to also explain to a non gamer what a game is and how it isn't all "Rooty Tooty McShooty" or waste of time repetitive violence fests and are instead an art form that stimulates more than just the eyes and ears. There will be difficult games on this list, but I don't expect players to 100% these games nor do I expect people to play them at all. Maybe it's for the lore, storytelling, and art design. It's also difficult to make this list because games I think should be on...

Nine of Wands

Image
The Nine of Wands is a curious card. While many cards are up to interpretation, this one is pretty straightforward. In all depictions of the card, there is a person, weary and beaten. They've seen battle and aren't done with it. They stand prepared for the next oncoming bout. Being the number nine, however, signifies that this is their last one before reaching their goal.          It is a card of hope for an upcoming difficult time. It calls upon you to keep working towards your dreams even when the world seems against you.      In a lot of spiritualities, there is a point in life where a persons entire being is put to the test. Their ideals, hopes, dreams and their place in the world. This is normally around the time someone turns 30. In Astrology, it's called Saturn's Return, meaning it's the three to four year span where Saturn is back to where it was when you were born. The first return is the most difficul...

Knight of Wands

Image
Inspiration and passion drives this card. Often times this card depicts a knight clad armor with yellow accents, often sporting the salamander, which is often associated with fire. He sit's on top a horse that seems ready for action. In this deck, however, it just depicts a well dressed woman with a cane sword at the ready as if they are about to use it. It is a card of action. Bringing with it the idea to create that which you previously planned.  I suppose I'll continue in this format at least another year. I did my drawing last month and there's no overlap in cards. I know It's been a while since I posted. I could lie and say I was busy, but really I was just distracted. That being said, nothing really happened last month. That month was the King of Swords which is about mental clarity and staying open to ones intuition. Seemed more like quiet contemplation. My birthday was on the 3rd. As I start to approach 30, I don't really feel much different than I did when ...

Eight of Wands

Once a shot is fired, there is no going back. Resistance only brings harm. The only thing you can do after is to go with it. This card shows just that. This card shows that one is cleared of all barriers and is ready to put their plan in motion. Everything this month is moving fast and I need to be laser focused on my goals.      It's a card that appears often in my readings, but I never really know what to do with it. I have so many plans and ideas but I feel the barriers that block this forward momentum are still in place. At the start of the year when I pulled my monthly cards, I thought I would have a full time job or would have started one of my many projects, but alas, I still feel as though I'm in the same spot.     Perhaps this is just about my school projects, Christmas events, new kittens and wedding planning that the card is talking about and not any of my bigger ideas.     Currently I'm taking Interactive Animation. The p...

The Magician

Image
The Magician is a very important card to me, and the card I pulled for November. Part of the reason I named the blog what I named it and why I use mage imagery in my online persona. To anybody who believes people have a card that represents them like a lot of the zodiac sites say, this is my card. Numbered 1, this Major Arcana depicts a dignified man holding or surrounded by the four suits of the cards: Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands which each represent the four elements of Water, Earth, Air and Fire respectively. One hand is held up while the other points downward depicting a connection to both the divine and the physical world. The figure 8 or infinity symbol is his connection to the eternal, raised above his head like a halo or the crown chakra. Some cards like the classic cards also depict him with a snake around his waist eating its own tail. A representation of Ouroboros, which also symbolizes the eternal.      The tarot ...
